MATCH 12 PREVIEW : CHILE AND PARAGUAY CHANGE FOR TODAY'S MATCH
Chile and Paraguay lock horns today in the second round of Group C of Copa America, in Arequipa, south of Peru. Both teams will meet at the UNSA stadium, at 5:15 pm local time. Chile, who lost 1-nil in the opening match to Brazil, need to win in order to continue dreaming of the quarterfinals. Paraguay, 1-nil victors against Costa Rica, need a narrow victory to stamp their pass to the next phase.
For this match, Chilean coach Juvenal Olmos will make changes to the team, with his sights set on victory over the Paraguayans. The first change takes place in goal, where Claudio Bravo replaces Alex Varas, injured in yesterday's training. Another change will be right-back Ismael Fuentes replacing Moises Villarroel. In midfield and attack, Juvenal Olmos will keep the same players who lost to Brazil. The Chilean manager will ask his men to be extra cautious with Paraguayan midfielder Aureliano Torres, who is the playmaker and demands special attention.
Paraguayan coach Carlos Jara Saguier also decided to perform changes on his team, despite the 1-nil win against Costa Rica on their debut. Derlis Gonzales will start playing as right-back, substituting Emilio Martinez. Injured defender Jose de Vaca will be swapped for Pedro Benitez, and Julio dos Santos, the goal-scorer in the victory against the Costa Ricans, will replace Jorge Britez, whilst striker Diego Figueredo yields his position to Fredy Bareiro.
Paraguay and Chile have clashed 20 times in the Copa America, and the Paraguayans have the edge, with 12 wins. The Chileans won 7 times, with just one draw. Paraguay scored 35 goals to Chile's 30. In their last encounter in the Copa America, in 1997, in Bolivia, Paraguay scored once with no reply, Acuña the scorer.
