MATCH 10 PREVIEW : ARGENTINA WANT TO CONFIRM GOOD RUN AGAINST MEXICO
All criticism received by Marcelo Bielsa at the helm of the Argentinean national team have diminished since the 6-1 mauling of Ecuador, last Wednesday. But the manager knows all too well that the positive moment depends on the side achieving more convincing results, therefore, this is what they will be in search of in the match against Mexico, this Saturday, in Chiclayo (north of Peru). The game scheduled for 7:45 pm local time, closes the second round of Group B in Copa America.
¿All criticism arises after each performance by the team. What happens today is forgotten after the following match if we don¿t repeat the good performance.¿, said the manager at the press conference, during which he kept the same poised attitude he shows during the games, a behaviour he abandoned after the goals against the Ecuadorians.
Victory today by the narrowest of margins qualifies Argentina to the quarterfinals of the Copa America. The players also avoid too much optimism. They believe the large score achieved against the Ecuadorians doesn¿t represent the gap between both teams, and they preferred to highlight how well they transformed opportunities into goals in the second half.
Argentina take to the pitch today against Mexico with the same lineup that started the match against Ecuador. Bielsa was pleased with Tevez and Rosales¿ performances, but will keep them as an option on the bench again to be used in the second half.
Wednesday¿s thrashing didn¿t frighten the Mexicans, who said they believe in a positive result against Argentina. But coach Ricardo Lavolpe and his men admit they must improve in regards to the 2-all draw against Uruguay. Midfielder Pavel Pardo, scorer of one of Mexico¿s goals, said that the Argentineans aren¿t ¿monsters¿.
Lavolpe, World Cup champion in 1978 as substitute keeper with Argentina, preferred to consider his homeland the favourites for the match, since they have more players plying their trade abroad. On the team, he might make one change in relation to the team that started against Uruguay: Left-back Carmona will be replaced by Altamirano.
